FlexSea: an edible and biodegradable bioplastic.

Replacing plastic packaging with a biomaterial based on algae is the idea of two local children who founded FlexSea: Carlo Fedeli and Thibaut Monfort-Micheo. Their innovative solution utilizes environmentally friendly materials while avoiding the ecological problems associated with traditional bioplastics production.

Thibaut Monfort-Micheo and Carlo Fedeli, who launched their company FlexSea in England before an upcoming establishment in the Principality, both grew up in Monaco. How did they come up with the idea? These two locals, who met at Imperial College London during their studies in materials science and management, had a breakthrough in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown. The excess of plastic packaging from home-delivered groceries caused frustration. The two graduates, then aged 21 and 23, talked about it. Carlo convinced Thibaut that it was imperative to find a solution to plastic pollution that impacts the environment and began working on a prototype on his balcony in Monaco.
