A. de Fussigny’s Angély shakes up spirits packaging codes with bioplastic bottles

Spirits housed in bioplastic bottles is the latest sustainable packaging initiative from A. de Fussigny, the cognac purveyor who in 2022 was the first brand to adopt Green Gen Technologies’ flax fiber bottle. Said to be the first spirits range in 100% plant-based bottles, and made in France’s Charente-Maritime region, Angély consists of a gin and a vodka.
Plant-based spirits packaging
“Our challenge was to design a range of 100% plant-based spirits covering every component from the bottle to the cork and shrink sleeve,” A de Fussigny Head of Procurement and Planning Virginie Isambert tells Formes de Luxe.
Both the bottle (Lyspackaging) and bottle sleeve are made of PLA (a material derived from plant-based residues, such as sugar cane), while the label is offset printed on Fedrigoni’s Modi White 100% Recycled WS FSC paper. The stopper consists of an agglomerated cork body and a PLA head. Said to combine the natural properties of cork with technologies that improve stopper performance and durability, it is produced using "advanced processing techniques" to ensure superior quality while preserving cork's ecological benefits. “Thanks to this innovation, cork stoppers can now be used for clear spirits, offering a more natural and durable alternative to synthetic stoppers, while preserving product quality and avoiding the risk of discoloration,” Isambert explains.
