Upside Creative Solutions: pulp tray in pole position

Pulp tray, or moulded or thermoformed pulp, is a material commonly used as a lightweight, recyclable wedging solution. Upside Creative Solutions is using it to design packaging concepts that take sustainability and customisation to the next level.

“There are many possibilities for revisiting packaging shapes using pulp tray technology”, says Christophe Meyer, co-founder and head of Upside Creative Solutions. He cites as an example the XXL advent calendar developed for the Lancôme brand for the 10th anniversary of its perfume “La Vie est belle”.

To illustrate the many applications of pulp tray, Upside Creative Solutions is preparing a “surprise” for visitors to the Édition Spéciale by Luxepack trade fair. It will be a totem pole that will be unveiled during the event: “It will be both a demonstration of the fun and versatile side of pulp tray and a marker of our identity”, says Christophe Meyer.

This material and the associated technology actually have many advantages. Not only is pulp tray completely recyclable, but there is virtually no waste of material, since all the offcuts can be reintegrated into the paper pulp, making it a totally circular and environmentally responsible process. Moreover, beyond the shapes, creativity is also allowed in terms of customisation: printing, hot stamping, and the application of textures directly in the mould.
